What do I need to know about validation and verification?

Validation and verification are two concepts that are often used as synonyms. They denote approximately the same actions and operations, but still differ from each other.
Both of them are related to testing to one degree or another. In simple words, the terms are interpreted as follows:
* validation – something that means confidence that the product has been created according to all previously stipulated standards;
* verification – confidence in compliance with the initially set criteria.
For the customer (consumer), the first concept is of great importance, for the manufacturer – the second. It may seem that the terms in question are the same, but they differ from each other. This is clearly visible in the English translation, where verification is verification, and validation is giving legal force.
